Student support

We work hard to create a safe and supportive learning experience for all our students.

We work hard to create a safe and supportive learning experience for all our students.

Everything we do is to help you succeed. No matter where you want to get to or where you are starting from, we want to help you achieve your ambitions.

Your wellbeing is very important to us. We know that some learners need more support to meet their needs. We work with learners, their families and external partners to support a smooth transition from school to college, right through to moving into employment or higher-level learning.

Our teams support students in a number of ways:

Our Learning Philosophy

Every year, our Learning Philosophy enables students to unlock their potential.

Our Learning Philosophy recognises the dynamics between brain, motivation and emotion, helping you learn and progress.

We want everyone to feel welcome, safe and secure whilst at college. We ensure that all staff working with young people under 18 and vulnerable adults receive appropriate safeguarding training to understand their responsibilities. We also have teams at all our colleges with advanced training to respond, act and support any child protection concerns.

If you are a student at Activate Learning and are worried about your own or somebody else's safety whilst at college, you can call 01865 550401 or email

Out of college, in an emergency please dial 999. If it's non-emergency, please call 101.

Students' Union

Have your say and join the Activate Learning Students’ Union! You could run for one of the executive committee positions or join some of the clubs and societies that are run by students.

Each campus has its own Students’ Union room where you can mix with other students, chill out and relax or work.

Mental health

Mental health issues will affect one in four people in the UK each year.

We offer a wide range of services to support learners with mental health issues. We work hard to prevent issues, helping students keep healthy. We work hard to prevent mental health issues arising, raise awareness, reduce stigma, break down barriers, help staff and students spot the signs, keep healthy and get help.

We know coming to college can be a daunting experience for some students. We offer taster sessions, college tours, summer programmes and 1:1 support to ensure everyone settles on campus.

Life can be challenging at times. All our students have access to a free, confidential counselling service, to help them work through any issues that may be affecting their studies.

Events and enrichment

Throughout the year, we organise a vibrant range of events and activities to enrich the learner experience at college. This includes: charity events, awareness days, and celebrating religious festivals.

Learner Voice and Student Representatives

Become a student representative and share your ideas and opinions to help change the student experience. This is an essential part of improving the college experience for all students.
